seriously though: call ahead & get a permit to head into the backcountry with yr camping gear (the campgrounds are ludicrously national-parky). if you run out of time, there’s a few overflow areas the bureau of land management has set aside, but make sure you have 4wd :)
indian cove is lovely, as is hidden valley. I LOVE the boy scout trail! wilderness areas are in the east side of the park— more colorado desert than mojave, but less people > more.

where is this? reminds of this place dragoon in AZ
rattlesnake canyon in joshua tree national park! waterfalls, caves, stacks of stones hundreds of feet high, views of the mojave desert in all its sacred beauty. it’s the all-day kind of fun.
